Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines psychotherapy with ketamine to support emotional processing, trauma resolution, and shifts in rigid thinking patterns. In this approach, ketamine is not considered the treatment itself. Instead, it acts as a catalyst that may temporarily increase emotional openness and mental flexibility while psychotherapy helps transform those experiences into lasting change.

Some clients choose to participate in therapist-supported dosing sessions, while others receive ketamine through a medical provider and attend psychotherapy for preparation and integration. In both cases, therapy remains the central focus of treatment.

Active Psycholytic Ketamine Therapy

Active psycholytic ketamine refers to a therapeutic approach in which a client takes a lower or moderate dose of ketamine while remaining conscious enough to participate in psychotherapy during the experience.

Unlike higher-dose experiences that involve deep dissociation, psycholytic dosing allows for conversation, emotional exploration, and guided therapeutic work while the medicine is active.

Clients may experience:

• increased emotional insight
• reduced psychological defenses
• greater openness to processing difficult experiences

This approach can allow therapy to occur in real time while the mind is in a more flexible and receptive state.

Ketamine Integration Therapy

Ketamine Integration Therapy supports individuals who receive ketamine treatment either through therapist-supported sessions or through an outside medical provider.

Integration focuses on helping clients process insights, emotions, and experiences that arise during ketamine treatment and translating those insights into meaningful psychological and behavioral change.

Integration sessions may include approaches such as:

• EMDR
• Brainspotting
• CBT
• DBT
• Counterintuitive Therapy (CIT)

Without integration, many individuals report having meaningful experiences during ketamine dosing, but difficulty translating those insights into lasting change.
