High Functioning Anxiety
Talk to the emotion, not the diagnosis
High functioning anxiety often shows up as constant internal pressure beneath outward competence. Individuals may appear capable, organized, and successful, yet feel driven by overthinking, perfectionism, or the need to stay in control.
Clients are often insightful and self aware, but emotionally strained and unable to settle internally. Productivity and responsibility become ways of managing anxiety rather than sources of ease.
Therapy focuses on stabilizing patterns of overcontrol through behavioral structure and increased flexibility. The goal is not to eliminate anxiety, but to create internal steadiness so anxiety no longer drives behavior.
This approach is structured, contained, and designed for high functioning adults seeking practical, sustainable change. Some of the somatic approaches that we use for high functioning anxiety are below.
